Our Comprehensive 4 Plus Academic Testing Programme

Understanding through 4 Plus academic testing where your child stands for the most selective schools is a vital part of creating the right educational plan for them. At Hermes Education we use comprehensive, standardised testing to create a clear picture of your child’s strengths and areas for development. This allows us to build a personalised plan that targets exactly what your child needs to succeed. These tests are an integrated part of our standard 4 Plus Programme. 

Our testing emulates the tests which are used by academically selective schools and in some cases actually uses the exact same tests – because we have teachers from those schools on our team. Most of these tests are simply not available to tutoring agencies and it is only because of our strong educational pedigree that we have access to them. This is one of the reasons why our programme is renowned for being the best in the industry and why our success rates are 70-80% for even the most selective of schools.

We have partnerships with both Oxford University and Cambridge University for standardised testing. We also have our own testing methodologies developed specifically for 4 Plus preparation. All testing is designed to feel like play — children enjoy the sessions and don’t experience them as formal assessments. Parents receive detailed written reports with standardised scores, raw data tables, and rankings against peer groups. This gives you a complete understanding of where your child stands and what needs to happen next. All testing is included as part of our standard 4 Plus programme.

Our 4 Plus ACADEMIC DIAGNOSTIC TESTS

English & Mathematics Testing
(Cambridge University)

We conduct standardised, adaptive testing of children’s English and Mathematics ability in conjunction with Cambridge University. The results show the child’s academic potential and current attainment levels. Parents receive a written report, standardised scores and the raw data tables. 

Our extensive database of children who have taken the 4 Plus assessment means we can rank your child against their peers applying to the same schools.

Motor Skills
Testing
(Cambridge University)

We conduct standardised, adaptive testing of a child’s fine and gross motor skills ability, also done in conjunction with Cambridge University. All 4 Plus assessments include some fine motor skill activities and some schools also test gross motor skills.

We share both total population scoring and rankings against other children going for or who have already been through the 4 Plus assessment at your target schools.

Numeracy & Phonics Testing
(In-House Programme)

We conduct standardised, adaptive testing of a child’s fine and gross motor skills ability, also done in conjunction with Cambridge University. All 4 Plus assessments include some fine motor skill activities and some schools also test gross motor skills.

We share both total population scoring and rankings against other children going for or who have already been through the 4 Plus assessment at your target schools.

Speech & Language Testing
(Oxford University)

We conduct additional quantitative, standardised testing to measure language adoption and understanding. This testing is done in conjunction with Oxford University using an approach developed by their speech and language department. This testing is particularly valuable for reticent children and for creating the right plan for bilingual children.

Parents receive a written report with standardised scores and clear recommendations.
