7 Plus Interview Preparation
7 Plus interview preparation is an increasingly important part of the journey needed for the 7 Plus. The interview allows schools to assess your child as an individual and determine whether they are a good fit for the school’s culture and values. Many academically strong children stumble at this final hurdle because they haven’t been properly prepared.
The good news is that interviewing is a teachable skill. Our interview preparation programme gives children the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to present their best self in a school interview. We work with children to answer both challenging questions and basic questions — such as “Why do you want to come to this school?” — in a way that is authentic, engaging and shows personality. This programme is an important part of our excellent success rate.
Why 7 Plus Interviews Matter
Competitive London schools use the interview to assess qualities that cannot be measured in written exams. They are looking for curiosity, articulacy, social confidence, resilience and genuine interest in learning. Schools want to understand how your child thinks, how they handle pressure, and whether they will contribute positively to the school community. A child who performs brilliantly in the written exam but struggles in the interview may not receive an offer.
What the 7 Plus Interview Preparation Course Covers
Our 7 Plus interview preparation programme includes three mock interviews conducted on three different days with detailed feedback and coaching between sessions. We cover:
- How to answer “Why do you want to come to this school?” in a way that is specific, genuine and memorable.
- How to talk about your interests and hobbies in a way that shows depth and passion rather than just listing activities.
- How to handle challenging or unexpected questions such as “What would you do if you were invisible for a day?” or “If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?”
- How to demonstrate curiosity and critical thinking when asked about books you’ve read or subjects you enjoy.
- How to manage nerves and make a strong first impression including body language, eye contact and tone of voice.
- How to talk about challenges or setbacks in a way that demonstrates resilience and growth mindset.
- How to ask thoughtful questions at the end of the interview, which shows genuine interest in the school.
How the 7 Plus Interview Preparation Programme Works
The 7 Plus interview preparation programme consists of three mock interviews conducted over three separate sessions. Each interview is followed by detailed feedback and coaching on what went well and what needs improvement. Between sessions, your child practices the techniques we’ve taught them, and we see measurable progress with each interview.
Our mock interviews replicate the format and tone of real school interviews. We ask the types of questions schools actually use and assess your child on the same criteria schools apply. This means that by the time your child sits their actual school interviews, the process feels familiar and manageable rather than daunting.
All our students on our programme are directed to the interview programme, but you can also purchase the package if you are not in our cohort.
Our Interview Coaching Team
Our 7 Plus interview preparation programme is taught by experienced educators with direct knowledge of how competitive London schools conduct their interview processes. Our team includes former teachers and admissions staff from top independent schools who understand exactly what schools are looking for and how to prepare children to meet those expectations.
Programme Formats
We offer two formats for the 7 Plus interview preparation programme:
1-2-1 7 Plus Interview Preparation Programme
Our main 7 Plus preparation programme is conducted 1-2-1 with your child. Sessions are scheduled at a time that suits you, usually after school or at the weekend, at our Hampstead, Dulwich or Chelsea sites. This format allows for highly personalised coaching tailored to your child’s specific needs and target schools.
Group Interview Day
We also offer a group interview day which can be purchased separately. This provides children with experience of group interview settings, which some schools use as part of their assessment process. Group days run on pre-agreed set dates and locations.
Who Should Take This Programme
The 7 Plus preparation programme is designed for children in Year 2 who are sitting 7 Plus entrance assessments. We recommend starting interview preparation in the autumn term of Year 2, once your child has completed their written exam preparation and is approaching the interview stage of the admissions process.
Programme Pricing
The 7 Plus interview preparation programme costs £500. This includes three mock interviews on three separate days with detailed feedback and coaching between sessions.
