7 Plus Mock Exams
Even the most prepared child can feel daunted the first time they experience formal exam conditions. Our 7 Plus mock exams aim to familiarise children with real test environments, helping them stay calm and make measured decisions under supervised, timed conditions. It is a critical and integrated part of our 7 Plus programme.
Mock exams are especially important for young children who have never encountered exam conditions. Most children in their first exam ask to go to the toilet or ask the teacher for help when they get stuck on a question. Our experienced teachers will gently guide them to work independently and manage their time effectively. This experience is invaluable — children who have practiced under exam conditions perform significantly better in the real assessments.
Why 7 Plus Mock Exams Are Essential
Schools rarely prepare children properly for these exams. State schools do not help children prepare for independent school entrance exams. Prep schools are usually targeting the 11 Plus rather than the 7 Plus — it is not in their interests to prepare children to exit their school early. This means parents must take responsibility for ensuring their child is ready for exam conditions, and mock exams are the most effective way to do this. Not all tutor agencies offer fully inviligated mock exams and it is a core part of our success.
Mock exams reveal gaps in knowledge, highlight time management issues, and build confidence. They also give you concrete data on where your child stands and what needs to be addressed in the final weeks of preparation. Many parents are surprised by what the mock exams reveal — children who perform well in tutoring sessions can struggle under exam pressure, and mock exams expose this early enough to fix it.
What's Included in the Mock Exams
On the day of the mock exam, your child will sit exams in:
- English (Comprehension and Creative Writing)
- Mathematics
- Reasoning (Verbal and Non-Verbal)
The exams take two hours in total and are fully invigilated under proper exam conditions. You choose the papers which most closely correlate to your target schools. We then mark the papers and provide you with detailed results and feedback.
